A tri-hull boat is a very bad boat in choppy water. The ride of the boat is the reason manufacturer's came out with a deep vee or vee bottom boat. Boston Whaler had a model that was named 17' Montauk which is a tri-hull. I've been out on that boat many times on the Detroit River, and I've also been on a deep vee 17' hull and the rides are completely different. It's almost like the deep vee has shock absorbers, that is a good description of the differences in the rides.
