When is it safe to get babies cheerios?

I have had lots of people say my baby is old enough now at 8 month. We tried them, but she didn't seem too interested. Is she ready for them when she shows an interest by picking one up herself? She doesn't show any interest in picking up a small object like that--I'm thinking her pincer grasp isn't perfected yet? When IS it? I'm not in a hurry, but my baby is showing such an interest in our food and I don't want to give her any table food, but would love to give her something to munch on!
